"The conversation - What would they talk about"
Our 2015 Artprize entry
"The Conversation" What would Dr. Martin Luther King and President Obama talk about? I think they would share a smile. This piece started out with just the two great American leaders being painted with the thumbprints and hand prints of Ellington Academy students. As we worked on it and the students started creating what the conversation might be, somehow President Lincoln joined in. The mural hopefully will be 36' feet long, a 24' section will be completed this school year. This section will have the portraits of Dr. King and President Obama. Instead of using brushes to apply paint students will use their hands to dab paint in the impressionistic style. Up close it will look like a bunch of color dabs, as the viewer moves away the "The Conversation" between two great American leaders comes into focus. All students from Pre-K to 10th grade, not just my art students will be involved in this project. The section with President Lincoln will be finished at ArtPrize by viewers.
